The parent prayer group is about making sure that Isham is a prayed-for school, and getting parents involved in the Christian life of the school. There is a meeting approximately every two weeks, on different days and times so that everyone can make at least one meeting a term if they want to.
We start with a short bible passage: this term, each bible passage is themed around the new school vision:
Nurturing the infinite worth of every person through love, respect, perseverance, honesty and forgiveness.
Then we think about upcoming events happening in school and write down things and people we need to pray for. We also take a look at the notebook which is left in the staffroom for staff to write in their prayer requests. Then there is period of quiet in which everyone present prays or reflects. If you are feeling brave, you can pray aloud, but there is no pressure to do so.
The whole meeting lasts 15-20 minutes and we finish with the Lord’s Prayer. It’s a lovely way to spend a few minutes of your day and my hope is that the group will encourage parents in their own prayer life, just as the children pray every day at school. It does not matter if you don’t know how to pray, or have never prayed in a group before – everyone is welcome. Please bring your pre-school children along too – there is a small box of toys and books provided to keep them amused, though nobody expects them to be quiet!
If you have any questions, please come and speak to me in the KS2-end of the playground. My name is Kylie and you will notice me as I’m usually standing with my 2-year-old twins. My older children, James and Kate, are in years 3 and 4. I’m also very happy to receive prayer requests, if you cannot make a meeting in person.
